Here are three ways you can support today’s major march for farmworkers’ human rights to Wendy’s largest institutional shareholder, Trian Partners, in Manhattan!

Today’s the day! The Immokalee caravan of over 60 farmworkers has settled into New York City and, as we write, is preparing to join hundreds of New Yorkers and allies from across the Northeast region in another major march to Wendy’s largest institutional shareholder, Trian Partners, in the heart of Manhattan. Today’s 5 p.m. protest promises to be a march to remember as the Fair Food Nation comes together to demand real transparency and human rights protections for the women and men who pick Wendy’s produce!

If you’re not able to make the NYC march but still interested in supporting, never fear! You can pick up the phone right now and dial the hedge fund Trian Partners, Wendy’s largest institutional shareholder, to demand a Fair Food commitment from Wendy’s leaders!

Here are 3 ways you can support Immokalee farmworkers marching in New York City today:

  1. MARCH in solidarity with CIW and hundreds of allies for the “What are you hiding, Wendy's?" action today, November 18, at 5 p.m. at 280 Park Ave in NYC!
  2. CALL Trian Partners, home of several Wendy’s board members, and urge them to bring Wendy’s into the Fair Food Program! See directions on how to call in, including a sample script, below. Call details below.
  3. SHARE your support of the Wendy’s Boycott on social media to put the company’s shameful rejection of the Fair Food Program on blast! Make sure to tag @Wendys in your posts and tweets and check out our social media toolkit for graphics and sample posts. Remember to use the #BoycottWendys hashtag!

HERE’S HOW TO CALL IN:

  1. Call Trian Partners in New York, New York at (212) 451-3000.
  2. Ask if you can leave a message regarding Wendy's tomato purchasing policies.
  3. You'll likely be directed to an assistant. Once you get someone on the line, give your statement. Feel free to offer your own personal comments, or use the script provided.
  4. Let us know how it went using this form!

SAMPLE SCRIPT:

“Hi, my name is _______ and I’m calling to leave a message in support of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. Today hundreds of farmworkers from Florida and allied New Yorkers will be demonstrating outside of your office to call on Wendy’s to join the Fair Food Program. And they aren’t alone. Hundreds of thousands of consumers are boycotting Wendy’s until the company does its part to guarantee human rights protections for farmworkers that harvest its food. It is imperative that Wendy's open its supply chain to the award-winning protections of the Fair Food Program and stop relying on superficial audits to protect farmworkers against sexual violence and slavery. Thank you for relaying this message.”

Stay tuned for the report from the big march later today and more news!
