As the cost of living crisis continues for households across the United Kingdom, the DUP has put forward local and national proposals that would see Government assist families struggling with spiralling bills.

On Monday Sir Jeffrey Donaldson wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak with proposals for action that would have an immediate impact on fuel bills and on household incomes.

He called on the Government to immediately:

  • Cut VAT on home heating fuel

  • Postpone plans to remove the rebate on Red Diesel

  • Cancel the planned 1.25% increase in National Insurance contributions

  • Offer targeted support to those households most in need.

Party Leader calls on the PM to support households facing increasing costs of living

Sir Jeffrey also called for the Government to assist households during Prime Ministers Questions on Wednesday.

He has also asked local party leaders in Northern Ireland to consider a package that would help via our rates system to give a rates cut to households and fund a secondary scheme to help those who do not pay rates.

The DUP is the only party to have tabled such a proposal to help households. We hope that other parties will support our efforts to assist households at this time.
