John,

The deadly 10-Day Rule has claimed countless innocent lives since taking effect in 1999.

The 10-Day Rule allows hospital committees to pull the plug on patients against their will. This happens more often than you think. We stand firmly against the 10-Day Rule to protect the lives of vulnerable patients.

While our legislative team works to end the 10-day countdown, your financial support allows our patient advocates to serve as first responders to those actively in need.

Our team will respond to situations that involve:
  • A loved one being given 10 days to transfer to another hospital before their life-sustaining treatment is withdrawn.
  • A hospital ethics committee meeting has been called to discuss removing your loved one’s life-sustaining treatment against your will (like a ventilator, dialysis, or certain blood pressure medication).
  • Doctors declared your loved one brain dead and want to withdraw life-sustaining treatment against your will.
  • You know or suspect that a hospital or doctor has placed an unwanted do-not-resuscitate order (DNR) on your loved one.
