We love it whenever our people get the recognition they deserve. 🙌 Today, POLITICO released its list of the 40 most influential people on race and politics, and we’re so pumped to see a number of familiar faces! Our former national policy advisor and Georgia State Representative, Bee Nguyen, made the list for “restoring the right to vote for 53,000 Georgians." Joining her were our partners, Nsé Ufot and Chuck Rocha, as well as current Boston Mayor and past New American Leaders Action Fund endorsed candidate, Michelle Wu. New American Senators Mazie Hirono and Tammy Duckworth and Representatives Stephanie Murphy and Pramila Jayapal also made the list!

This week, we learned that the census, which has a longstanding trend of undercounting Black people, Latinos, and Native Americans, just did the same thing again in the most recent 2020 census. Surprised? We aren’t, especially when taking into account that the Trump administration cut census field operations short by a month and attempted to exclude undocumented immigrants from the count altogether. But the fact that Latinos were left out of this census at more than three times the rate of a decade earlier is egregious and needs to be addressed. The census, as we know, must ensure that everyone living in the United States is counted. No exceptions.

Today, while we get ready for our first training in California in four years (we're so excited for our Ready to Lead: National Women's Training in the Bay Area!), we want to shout out a few of our fantastic California-based alumni!

Get to know and follow Elizabeth Alcantar, Farrah Khan, Daisy Lomelí, Sonia Lopez, Jacqueline Rodarte, Jessica Vazquez, and Aisha Wahab—who are all creating change and leading the fight for an inclusive democracy in elected office.

We're so proud of their leadership and are also reminded that more New American and BIPOC women leaders—such as the ones we'll be training this weekend—will soon follow in their footsteps!

Did you know that women today are just as unlikely as they were 20 years ago to express interest in running for office? Or that women are far less likely than men to be encouraged to run for office?

This Women's History Month, help us change the narrative by asking a woman you know to run for office (and send them our training schedule)! If you're an AAPI woman, apply to take our Ready to Lead: National AAPI Women's Training in New York City on May 13-15!

Want to join the NAL Team? You're in luck—we're hiring!

We are looking for a detail-oriented and committed individual to join our team as Executive Assistant to the President and Office Manager. They will be supporting the initiatives of our president, Ghida Dagher, and will be taking the lead on special projects for NAL.

We are also looking to hire a Governance Director. This role plays a key part in supporting our growing network of New American elected officials as they create policy change and change the face of leadership.

Learn more about the roles and apply here.
