On Tuesday, President Biden made the right decision to cut Russian oil from our economy. But now he faces pressure from fossil fuel lobbyists & corrupt politicians to strengthen our reliance on oil dictators. We can’t let this happen.

Our reliance on both Russian and Saudi oil and gas is what led us to this crisis, and is a failure of American energy policy. Biden must break our dependence on these oil dictators once and for all. The clean energy revolution is the best way to help prevent fossil-fueled conflicts and climate catastrophe.

It’s long past time that we transitioned off of dirty, corrupt oil energy and ushered in a new age of renewables — an era of the Green New Deal. Biden can't listen to fossil fuel CEOs who are profiting on war. He must listen to our demands for a livable future.

As Big Oil continues to profit off corrupt petrostates, the people of Ukraine are being murdered in a brutal war that is funded in large part by oil and gas.

If the U.S. really wants to defend human rights and democracy abroad, we need a just transition to renewable energy. Now is the time to rewrite the rules of international dependency on fossil fuels. Biden must mobilize this country as we did in World War II and lead a massive, global clean energy transition that prioritizes human rights, democracy, and high labor standards. That’s what the Green New Deal is, and that’s what we need now.

Biden must use our leverage as an international leader to lead this effort, prevent future petro-wars, and prevent oligarchs and dictators from profiting off the destruction of our planet and ultimately the destruction of innocent lives.
