The Allies Unite Two-party solutions and the war. |

Sometimes stuff happens so seamlessly and imperceptibly that we almost don’t even notice. So, let’s take a moment to acknowledge an important reality about which our movement can be proud: Our Capitol Hill allies are driving much of the forward action as the U.S. responds to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. To review: No Labels has worked for years to foster relationships in Congress between Democrats and Republicans, and between senators and members of the House. Those bipartisan, bicameral ties paid off on the domestic front with the passage of the COVID relief bill at the end of 2020 and the infrastructure bill in 2021. Now, in 2022, as the nation and the world face a new crisis driven by events abroad, the unique ability of our allies to work together is producing results that are both fast and bipartisan, each essential to meet the dimensions of the challenge. From getting the White House to ban Russian oil to exploring ways to expand U.S. production to discussions about the best way to provide assistance to Ukraine, it is Problem Solvers in the House and Senate who are leading the way. We have seen Senator Bill Cassidy lead a masterclass on new energy ideas; Congressman Josh Gottheimer put the focus on combatting the impact of the invasion on inflation; Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick leverage his longstanding ties to Ukraine to shape the debate on additional aid; and Senators Joe Manchin and Lisa Murkowski demonstrate the power of bipartisanship to break logjams on Capitol Hill. |
