The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
It was a busy week in Washington, D.C. and at the southern border. My newsletter will tell you all about it! I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve Arizona’s Fifth District in Congress. I hope you’ll read below to learn more about my efforts to represent my constituents.
Omnibus Spending Bill/Russian Energy Sanction Bill
Late Wednesday evening, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two bills that I simply could not support.
The first was the Consolidated Appropriations Act, otherwise known as the $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill that funds the government through September 30, and includes $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine amid the war with Russia. This bill will exacerbate our out-of-control spending. At a time when the national debt has surpassed $30 trillion, Congress cannot continue this cycle of reckless spending. This bill will dramatically increase the deficit, leaving a massive bill for our children to pay.
Even worse, Nancy Pelosi released this 2700-page bill in the middle of the night and gave members less than 24 hours to read it before voting. Congress must fund the government in a responsible and appropriate manner by returning to regular order and going through the committee process.
The second was H.R. 6968, Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act, or what I like to call Nancy Pelosi's fake Russian oil sanctions bill.
If Democrats were serious about sanctioning Russia, they would not give President Biden broad authority to waive the sanctions once they take effect. This bill will not alleviate the energy crisis here at home.
Congress should sanction Russian oil and enact policies that will make America energy independent again. President Biden’s plan to ban Russian oil only to buy it from other dictators will hurt Americans. Congress must re-enact the Trump-era policies that made America energy independent. For more of my thoughts on these two reckless bills, check out the videos I posted to my Twitter page by clicking on each below:
Border Trip w/ Congressional Delegation
On Thursday, I traveled back to Arizona and met up with some congressional colleagues to learn more about the Biden Border Crisis and how it affects communities within the interior of the country.
Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb showed us some areas that drug traffickers use to hide out while waiting for their drug loads to pick up. Some of these spots are on private land, endangering the lives of local residents. And you can see from the pictures below the disaster they leave behind.
The Biden Border Crisis is real. This is a national security and humanitarian emergency that every American should be concerned about. Ten thousand illegal aliens cross our southern border every day. Terrorists and violent criminals have been released into the country. And the Biden administration recently admitted to losing track of at least 20,000 unaccompanied alien children that were apprehended after crossing the border. It’s time for Congress and the administration to get serious about addressing the crisis.
