Nonprofit Professional Employees Union inks first contract with The Democracy Collaborative The Democracy Collaborative (TDC) and the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, IFPTE Local 70 (NPEU) have signed the organization’s first collective bargaining agreement. “This contract represents our bargaining unit’s commitment to making The Democracy Collaborative a model of the kind of workplace we advocate for every day,” said union bargaining representative and TDC staff member Katie Parker. Ted Howard, TDC president and co-founder, added that “Since establishing TDC as a nonprofit research institute twenty years ago, we have always endeavored to provide best-in-class compensation and an empowering work environment for the staff that provide the indispensable foundation for our work to advance the democratic economy. As a rapidly growing organization, we see this contract as a natural way to continue and deepen that commitment.” Read more here.
LCLAA-DC's new Board takes office The DC Metro chapter of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement has a newly-appointed board. Edmundo Osorio (IAM) is the president of the chapter, Sonia Lozano (LIUNA) is Vice President and Jessica Tamayo (SEIU 32BJ) is Financial Secretary, and Recording Secretary is Vidette Mejias (NEA). Executive Board members are Pedro Clavijo (Bricklayers), David Fernandez-Barrial (AFSCME 2910) and Jorge Bonilla (IAM). "LCLAA plays a key role in advancing justice for Latino working families," said LCLAA is welcoming the new board. "As we continue to expand our outreach, our chapters play a pivotal role in the overall growth and success of this organization and its goals!"
Metro Council and UFCW 400 win ILCA media awards The Metro Council’s website and Union City newsletter took home a pair of honors at the International Labor Communications Association's 2019 Labor Media Awards last Friday. UFCW Local 400 collected a third place award for Writing-Best Series (State/Local) for "Local 400 ACTS!" The Metro Council's dclabor.org website took first place in the General Excellence - Blog (State/Local) category and the Union City newsletter won third place in General Excellence - Electronic Publication (State/Local).
