Democrats in Congress fought hard for stimulus checks, relief for small businesses, assistance for local governments, and expanded unemployment benefits. The American Rescue Plan made all of these things happen, helping the country weather the delta and omicron waves of the pandemic and spurring record-setting economic growth.
But not a single Republican in Congress voted for it.
The American Rescue Plan did more to lower the costs of health care than any other piece of legislation since the Affordable Care Act. Not only were congressional Republicans trying to stop Congress from passing much-needed relief to Americans during the pandemic, but now they’re talking about repealing the Affordable Care Act if they take control of Congress in November.
