John,

Today marks the 49th anniversary of the first PFLAG meeting held in NYC. It’s a pivotal time to reflect on the birth of the ally movement, a time when there are so many egregious attacks on our LGBTQ+ loved ones, specifically trans and nonbinary youth.

The fight for our lives continues, and we need you with us. Please consider a gift of any amount to PFLAG National so we can continue showing up for our LGBTQ+ loved ones.

As all of these attacks on our loved ones continue during Women’s History Month, we can’t help but also reflect on the bravery it took for Jeanne Manford to march alongside her gay son Morty—a moment in history where she didn’t have organizations or communities like PFLAG standing behind her to catch her.

As I write this, nearly 200 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in 2022 alone. This is a pivotal moment for us to recommit to the bravery lead with love as Jeanne did nearly 50 years ago. Will you recommit to PFLAG National with a donation today?

The facts are clear:

  • Families of trans and nonbinary youth shouldn’t have to contemplate leaving Texas or their home state and, for many, that option simply isn’t feasible in the first place.
  • Everyone has a sexual orientation. Everyone has a gender identity. If anyone wants to remove those from the classroom or history, books and schools will be empty.
  • We should be adding MORE books about all kinds of topics and people in our schools and libraries.
  • The Equality Act needs to get to President Biden’s desk so we can make equality for all people, in all places and at all times, the law of the land.

The list goes on -- and unfortunately, this year will continue to be difficult before we see it get easier. We must be strategic in this fight.

Families and allies must continue to show up and speak out so our loved ones, whether Black, white or brown, Native or newcomer, transgender or not, have the freedom they deserve to be their whole selves.

Can we count on you, John?

With immense gratitude,

Brian K. Bond (He/Him)
