Inflation Hits New 40-Year High

Biden is blaming the high inflation on Russia (ABC News). But Obama’s economic advisor begs to differ (Hot Air).  From the Wall Street Journal: Russia’s invasion has certainly contributed to rising oil and gasoline prices in recent weeks and, as villains go, he’s top of our list. But inflation had already hit 7.5% on an annual basis in January before Russia invaded Ukraine. The prices of oil and other commodities have been on an inflation-inspired tear for months. Gasoline prices were up 6.6% in February, but they’re up 38% over 12 months. Mr. Biden can blame Mr. Putin for many things, but not U.S. inflation. The root cause is homegrown: Two years of historically easy monetary policy, and explosive federal spending that fed economic demand even though the economy had long ago emerged from the pandemic recession (WSJ). Meanwhile, Democrats still refuse to budge on Keystone (Townhall). Biden is surrounded by anti-oil radicals (Townhall).

Biden Personally Killed Polish Jet Deal

From the story: Despite desperate please from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and pressure from lawmakers at home, President Biden killed the Polish plan to transfer MiG-29 jets to Ukraine, fearing the deal might be viewed as an escalation of tensions by Vladimir Putin (Daily Mail). From the wall Street Journal editorial board: The bigger problem is the message this fiasco sends to Mr. Putin about NATO. The essence of credible deterrence is making an adversary believe that taking certain actions will draw a response. By so ostentatiously not sending the fighters, and saying the reason is fear of escalation, Mr. Biden is telling the Russian what he doesn’t have to worry about. Instead of deterring Mr. Putin, Mr. Biden is letting the Russian deter the U.S. This is becoming a pattern with the Commander in Chief. In Afghanistan he demanded a quick and dirty exit by a date certain lest he provoke the Taliban who had taken over the government. The result was an American humiliation that may have influenced Mr. Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine (WSJ). Meanwhile, according to another story, “Vladimir Putin has sacked his top generals and is ‘raging’ at the FSB after failed intelligence and poor strategy saw his troops handed a series of embarrassing defeats in the opening days of the war in Ukraine” (Daily Mail).

Disney Attacks Florida for Not Wanting Young Children Exposed to Trans Propaganda

The story notes “Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke out against the bill for the first time Wednesday in the company’s annual shareholder meeting, during which he announced Disney would be donating $5 million to LGTBQ groups.” Governor Ron DeSantis did not back down, saying there is “zero” chance he’ll allow “transgenderism in kindergarten classrooms” (Fox News). Bethany Mandel explains the bill “does remove gender and sexual orientation issues from the formal curriculum for five, six and seven-year-olds, and mandates that instruction for older children is age and developmentally appropriate. The reality is DeSantis, and millions of other parents like him, don’t think it appropriate to talk about sexuality with very young children. And the bill also does more than that — it prohibits schools from withholding information from parents about their children’s education and mental health, unless notification presents a threat to the child’s safety. You’d think that’s a given. You’d think wrong. Education of children in radical gender ideology is taking place in public facilities across the country (Daily Mail). Some Disney shareholders aren’t happy (National Review). Carol Platt Liebau shows “the “controversial” provision of the Florida bill that has @Disney so upset. Why should a children’s entertainment company take issue with this?” (Twitter). From Mark Hemingway: “There’s no such thing as other people’s children” say the people who want kindergartners to learn about transgenderism (Twitter).

Maryland Bill Would Allow Mother to Have Newborn Killed in First Month

Democrat state senator William Smith calls it the “Pregnant Person’s Freedom Act of 2022” and they even have the nerve to call this an “abortion,” which tells you the pro-choice crowd knows what an abortion really is.

Biden’s New Iran Deal in Jeopardy as Russia Smells an Opportunity

The story notes “Russia is requesting that any return to the agreement include guarantees that any future Russian business with Iran be exempt from EU and U.S. sanctions — a late curveball from Moscow in response to the crippling penalties the country is facing over its invasion of Ukraine.” Politico remembered the prior deal fondly, calling it a “landmark deal under which Iran limited its nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief.”

Smollett Sentenced to 150 Days in Jail for Lying to Police

From the story: When Smollett returned to Cook County court on Thursday – after much back-and-forth by his defense team and prosecutors over four hours – he was sentenced to thirty months felony probation, restitution to the city of Chicago in the amount of $120,106, a fine of $25,000, and 150 days in the Cook County Jail (Fox News). After sentencing, he went on a bizarre rant about race and sexual orientation as he continues to deny doing what he was convicted of.  He repeatedly said “I am not suicidal” and implied the police might try to kill him and make it look like a suicide (RedState).
