We emailed you last month about the hateful "Don't Say Gay" bill pushed by Florida Republicans. This legislation (which aims to silence discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in schools) has now passed the Florida Senate, and is about to be signed into law.

15 other states are considering similar legislation. We have to put a stop to the legislative attacks against the LGBTQ+ community, and a critical first step is to pass the Equality Act.

John, a "Don't Say Gay" bill is moving through the Florida state legislature. It would stop school districts from encouraging classroom discussion around sexual orientation or gender identity.

This is an unnecessary, bigoted, homophobic attack on LGBTQ+ students and their families. It's an attempt to erase who people are during the formative years of their lives.

Florida's bill is the latest in a wave of discriminatory laws that have been introduced across the country -- over 250 bills targeting the LGBTQ+ community were brought up in 2021.

We can't sit back and let Republicans legislate hatred at the state level. Marie proudly voted for the Equality Act (which would guarantee federal civil rights protections to anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+) -- now, we need the Senate to follow the House's lead.
