Pandemic-Driven Health Policies

In a new Health Affairs Policy Brief

released today, William Bleser and coauthors examine pandemic-driven
health policies to address social needs and health equity.

The COVID-19 pandemic has spawned new health policies and interventions
to address social needs and social determinants of health.

In the brief, Bleser and coauthors share lessons from these
interventions and similar prepandemic initiatives and describe how they
can guide policy makers in designing more permanent approaches.

"Policy implementation and design must meaningfully engage communities
and historically marginalized populations to build trust, respect, and
cultural competency," they write, citing North Carolina's COVID-19
Support Services Program as a success on this front.
