Dear John,

Transgender and non-binary youth in Hanover County need your support. On Tuesday March 8th the Hanover County School Board (HCSB) voted to allow Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group, to weigh in on the board’s equity policy. A partnership between ADF and HCSB can only mean one thing– LGBTQ+ students, Black and brown students, students with disabilities, and those with multiple marginalized identities will be targeted and face further discrimination and stigmatization at school. We won’t stand for this.

Equality Virginia is ready to show up in solidarity for students in Hanover County and push back on the school board’s decision to engage ADF. Can you join us for a Week of Action (March 16-March 23)?

On March 16th at 6:00 pm we’ll host a virtual community meeting on what’s happening in Hanover County and how you can help. You’ll hear from ACLU-VA, Side By Side, He She Ze and We, Hanover NAACP, parents, teachers and students. We’ll give you immediate actions you can take and share details about our upcoming Week of Action (virtual and in-person opportunities). RSVP now for our Hanover Community Meeting! We will strive to make this a safe space for all who attend. RSVP and password are required to join.

Our youth are counting on you! I hope to see you during the Week of Action!

With You In The Fight,

Narissa Rahaman (she/her)
