Black women have been at the heart of so many of our collective struggles
for justice — as leaders, disruptors, builders, caregivers, healers, and
so much more. I’m proud to have the opportunity to work for an
organization that is fighting every day to create a world where the lives
and stories of Black women and girls don’t just matter, but are centered.

And this Women's History Month, I’m grateful to be in community with you
and millions of other COC members who have joined together over the years
to uplift and empower Black women and take action to combat the issues
we’re most impacted by, from economic justice to health care. In the last
five years, here’s just some of the victories you’ve helped to power:

* Organizing the annual Black Mama’s Bail Out as a founding member of
the National Bail Out Collective — an ongoing initiative that’s raised
over $5 million and bailed out more than 500 women.
* Sponsoring U.S. Olympic athlete Gwen Berry through the 2021 Tokyo
Olympic Games after she was dropped by corporate sponsors for
protesting racial injustice.
* Launching #TheBlackResponse to COVID-19, an action hub to help Black
people stay safe and thrive during the pandemic.

Right now, there’s so much at stake for women in America — as we continue
to battle the economic and societal impacts of a pandemic that pushed
millions of women out of the labor force and unprecedented attacks on our
reproductive rights by right-wing forces.

We must show up for Black women — and demand a cost from those who won’t.

John, I didn’t grow up with politics around the dinner table. I
grew up knowing that I was supposed to become a lawyer and never had plans
to become an activist.

But in 2008, I left my job at a corporate law firm to become a
presidential campaign volunteer organizer. And after that first experience
with the power of grassroots organizing, I never looked back — I worked to
overturn Proposition 8 in California before joining Color Of Change in
2012.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve worked on everything from criminal and
economic justice reform, to corporate accountability, to democracy and
elections. But you don’t need to be a full-time activist to make a
difference — big, systemic change starts with everyday people taking small
steps every day to create the world they want to see.

John, I’m asking you to take that step today with a
contribution to Color Of Change. We don’t take money from lobbyists or
corporations that don’t share our values, so we’re relying on folks like
