Dear John,

Abortion care providers are resilient, innovative, and adaptive – they show up to provide abortion care every day while working towards a world in which every person can shape their own futures and families.

Today, join those of us across the movement for reproductive freedom celebrating Abortion Provider Appreciation Day [[link removed]], commemorating and honoring the work of abortion providers and staff in communities and online.

Abortion Provider Appreciation Day began in 1996 to honor the life of Dr. David Gunn, an abortion provider who was killed by an anti-abortion extremist on March 10, 1993. White supremacy and anti-abortion extremism have long been inextricably linked, fueling violence against providers, and driving the passage of bans on abortion care.

Abortion providers and clinic staff courageously provide care in the face of unrelenting threats, violence, and harassment. To provide abortion care is to believe in hope, justice, and trust, and to lead a movement of liberation – and abortion providers absolutely deserve the same level of respect, privacy, and safety as all health care professionals.

To honor abortion providers, Congress just announced a resolution to recognize March 10 as Abortion Provider Appreciation Day. At the community and state levels, NIRH is working with partners in Alexandria, VA; Baltimore, MD; and the state of Wisconsin to pass resolutions through their local governments declaring today Abortion Provider Appreciation Day.

John, with so much on our minds these days, please consider taking a moment to thank and uplift the people who provide this care [[link removed]] – and highlight the strength of our collective support.

Thank you,
Andrea Miller
