Mike Thompson has voted several times in favor of police militarization, including voting against House amendment 918 to HR 4870, which would have prohibited "use of funds to transfer aircraft (including unmanned aerial vehicles), armored vehicles, grenade launchers, silencers, toxicological agents, launch vehicles, guided missiles, ballistic missiles, rockets, torpedoes, bombs, mines, or nuclear weapons" to police forces.
I do not see police forces as an extension of the military, and intend to work toward neighborhood policing and demilitarization and greater accountability from police officers. We don't have gangs and other crime because of weak laws or weak police forces. We have those things because of massive poverty levels and elected officials who would rather lock more people up than fix the system which is hurting so many.
But you deserve more than just locking up more and more people. The United States has more people in prison than any country in world history. We can do better. But we need your help. Our average contribution is $21.88, a little more than 20 bucks. Can you pitch in 20 bucks to help our campaign get on the ballot?
