Last Wednesday was the coldest day of the year so far. As temperatures fell into the 20s, a broken boiler deprived 2,440 of our neighbors in a Bronx NYCHA complex of heat and hot water.
People’s lives depend on adequate housing. Leaving our elderly and children to freeze without heat is not only inhumane but extremely dangerous.
NYCHA has an epidemic of broken boilers that is not being addressed fast enough. With climate change distorting weather systems, our winters will only get colder and leaving NYCHA tenants without adequate heat will only become more dire.
Washington, Albany, and City Hall must step up and provide the necessary funding to expedite the upgrade and replacement of unreliable heating systems. But we must step up as well.
Friends, I am counting on you. Will you join me and stand up in support of our neighbors at NYCHA housing in our district and the City at large?
Sign this petition to tell our complacent leadership: enough is enough. We need justice for NYCHA tenants now.
