Hi John,
Late last month, the United Nations released an alarming report on the state of our climate, and I have a few thoughts to share. I hope you’ll take a minute to read to the end, but if you’re short on time, I need to ask you to give whatever you can to support Roy’s work combating climate change here in North Carolina. It’s a cause close to both our hearts and a priority of his administration.
John, if we continue down the path we’re on, we will leave our children a planet that is simply unlivable.
From floods to fires, droughts to hurricanes, extreme weather events are set to get even more extreme. They’ll cause famines and displacement. Air pollution will lead to heart and lung problems exacerbated by warmer weather.
This future is bleak, and it’s one I refuse to leave to our three daughters or any of North Carolina’s children.
Every leader of this country — especially every parent — should be speaking with one voice on the matter of climate change: We need to protect our planet for future generations. This is a truly existential threat.
Our governments must act. The time to reverse or end climate change entirely has come and gone, but there is still hope that we can make a difference and prevent the worst outcomes.
The U.N. report tells us that creating a liveable, sustainable world requires both adapting to the consequences of climate change and bringing down carbon emissions NOW.
While I’m proud that Roy strenuously advocates for clean energy and putting resources toward mitigating the harm climate change will cause, I know that we will always need to do more. It’s work that won’t be easy, and it’ll take all of us joining together in a commitment for change.
So if you’re able, please donate now to help Roy continue fighting for North Carolina’s future.
Thanks for all you continue to do,
Kristin Cooper
First Lady of North Carolina
