This week, the Supreme Court shut down Republican attempts to sabotage fair maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. This important SCOTUS decision is another proof point that the GOP’s strategy is backfiring.
“Across the country, Republicans are being held to account by state judicial branches for their arrogant attempts to illegitimately draw their way to political power not earned from the voters.”
-- Eric H. Holder, Jr.

As A.G. Holder pointed out, the self-proclaimed states’ rights party was quick to run to the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate state court decisions on maps.
This worked in their favor when the Supreme Court decided it was too close to the midterm elections to redraw Alabama’s gerrymandered maps.
But the GOP strategy of banking on Trump’s SCOTUS picks to tip the scales toward Republicans on all redistricting cases didn’t pan out. The Supreme Court allowed the fair maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania to stand, which makes sense because elections are right around the corner in those states too.
The midterm elections in North Carolina and Pennsylvania will use fair maps!
Map manipulators seem to be running out of ways to lock in gerrymandered maps for the 2022 midterm elections -- but we can’t discount their commitment to circumvent democracy or the will of voters.
