Howdy Comrades!
Welcome to issue 21 of the Houston DSA Newsletter! It's party time, baby! I'm Stephen Adkison, Houston DSA's Communications Secretary. Thanks for reading, and for doing all the work that I'll be writing about in these newsletters.
This is intended as a way to stay updated on the many things that our chapter does, so I think you should share the subscription link with a friend, and bring them out to anything we do!
Without further ado, here is issue 20 of the Houston DSA newsletter!

Houston DSA for Bernie at HCC

Join Houston DSA to talk with students at Houston Community College (Central Campus) about democratic socialism and Bernie's campaign! We'll be there from 2:30-5pm Wednesday, November 20. We'll register voters as we work our way to the world we want! Please RSVP here.
Hang around with us afterwards for our debate watch party that night at Midtown Bar & Grill. We'll have bingo and maybe even some raffle prizes! Meet us after 6:30pm, and you can RSVP for that here.
Wear a Bernie or DSA shirt, or just something red. RSVP with your shirt size if you'd like us to bring one for you. See you there!

Our Reading Group met Monday to discuss Stanford Beer's Designing Freedom. Beer was the chief designer of Chilean Democratic Socialist President Salvador Allende's Cybersyn project. It was an interesting discussion on what running the society we want will actually look like. Next meeting, the Monday before Thanksgiving (11/25), we will discuss the article Decolonization is not a metaphor, by Eve Tuck and K. Wayne Yang. Hope to see y'all there!
We had our first Bernie Canvass Thursday afternoon at the University of Houston! It was a great time, and we got over 70 signatures of students pledging to vote for Bernie in the primary, in addition to helping many register to vote. Most importantly, we got to talk about our broader vision for democratic socialism and the work we do as a chapter! As mentioned above, I highly recommend you come out to our next canvass on Wednesday at HCC!
That night at our General Meeting, we got a lot done! Our co-chair Bryan gave everyone a full update from the El Real Workers and the help we gave them. Then, we voted to endorse two candidates: Audia Jones for Harris County District Attorney, and Stevens Orozco for House Congressional District 18. Keep an eye out for how you can help these two candidates win their primary elections! And thanks to everyone who came and participated in our meeting!
