Blue Dog Statement on House Passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act

WASHINGTON—Today, the Co-Chairs of the Blue Dog Coalition—Reps. Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01), Ed Case (HI-01), Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), and Kurt Schrader (OR-05)—issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2022:

“Although it came five months after the fiscal year began, we’re glad Congress is finally passing bipartisan legislation to fund government operations—fulfilling our most fundamental responsibility as legislators. The practice of passing short-term continuing resolutions must end. It’s fiscally irresponsible and deeply damaging to our economic well-being and national security.

“The bill makes strong investments to help families, small businesses, and rural communities as they confront high prices and supply chain issues linked to the global pandemic. It also reflects the Blue Dogs’ call for significant investments in our nation’s defense, which is particularly vital given the perilous state of the world. We strongly support the $13.6 billion in military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Blue Dogs stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of democratic Ukraine as they courageously defend their homeland against Putin’s unprovoked war.”
