We know that we’ve been spending a lot of time talking about the congressional elections happening across Virginia this year, and while those races are extremely important in maintaining a Democratic majority in Congress, we want to take a moment to talk to you about some other races happening across the commonwealth that have a direct impact on Virginia’s future: local School Board elections.

Localities across the commonwealth are holding elections this year and there is so much at stake for our education system at the local, state, and federal levels.

The Virginia GOP has made attacking our public school system a main focus of their agenda — threatening to defund school districts that don’t comply with their extreme right-wing positions — so, it’s critical that we have the resources we need to help elect more Virginia Democrats to the school board.

Here’s why school board elections are so important, folks:

Just last night, the Hanover School Board voted to allow a “nationally recognized hate group” to review their policies regarding transgender students. Instead of focusing on creating a learning environment in which children can thrive, Republicans on the school board are focused on creating an environment that targets students.

We’re investing our resources in helping to elect Democrats to local School Boards across Virginia to help create a better, more welcoming future for our commonwealth’s childrens and families.
