Friend,
This week has been historic. Finally, the impeachment inquiry has become public. Now, in real-time, the American people can hear the damning testimony that the impeachment committees have been learning from witnesses for the past few weeks.
You may be among the millions of people who’ve watched this week’s televised and live-streaming hearings of American patriots, who’ve been confirming Trump’s abuses of power and threats to our national security.
Multiple credible and dedicated government officials have been testifying in this transparent process so far, making it clear that Trump bribed and extorted Ukraine’s president for Trump’s own personal gain. Unlike Trump, these public servants are putting our country and our democracy first.
Already, we’re seeing these hearings shift public opinion: A majority of independents and swing voters now support the impeachment process.
On Veterans Day, I heard from Republican residents of my district who encouraged me to keep it up. Throughout this week, Republicans in Congress have been unable to really rebut the testimonies they’ve heard. And many had to admit that Trump crossed another line on Friday, when he tweeted to denigrate former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, during her live testimony.
Rep. Adam Schiff continued his expert leadership by calling out Trump’s real-time witness intimidation—yet another crime and impeachable offense.
A new poll shows that 51% of voters support expanding impeachment to cover additional abuses of power, compared to only 17% who want the inquiry to focus narrowly on the Ukraine scandal.
I agree with the people. Congress' constitutional duty is to protect our democracy and our communities from the full range of Trump's abuses of power, not just his Ukraine misdeeds. Trump's offenses related to Ukraine offenses are not an aberration or a one-time incident; they’re just the latest examples of him subverting our democracy to advance his own interests—whether it’s Trump’s corruption, conflicts of interest, or blatant violations of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clauses.
We have to make sure that this doesn’t become the new normal.
This week, progressive grassroots organizations released the “People’s Articles of Impeachment,” which go beyond Ukraine to include the full scale of Trump’s high crimes, including racist abuses of power.
Check out the must-read “People’s Articles of Impeachment” here. Their proposed articles of impeachment fall into these categories:
-
Abuse of power to target political adversaries, critics, and the press.
-
Corruption of electoral processes.
-
Abuse of office to promote discrimination, hostility, and unlawful violence.
-
Corruption and self-enrichment.
-
Obstruction of the administration of justice and Congressional inquiries.
-
Misuse of armed forces and abuse of emergency powers.

In related news: Trump’s longtime adviser Roger Stone was convicted on Friday of obstruction of justice, lying to Congress two years ago about Russian interference in 2016’s election, and witness tampering.here’s a real shift coming from outside the halls of Congress, as more and more Americans are demanding that we hold this President accountable. As you’ve heard me say before, true transformative change begins in the streets.
