Florida’s hateful “Don’t Say Gay” bill has landed on Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk, John, and he is moments away from enshrining this horrific bill into law.
The Florida GOP thinks they can erase LGBTQ+ Floridians by banning discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools. They think they can shove us into hiding. They think they can make us ashamed of who we are.
It’s supporters of this bill who should be ashamed, John.
This is not a matter of parental concern for educational content, it is yet another line item on the GOP’s hateful political agenda.
I’m so proud and grateful to see so many young Floridians take a stand against the GOP’s bigotry. The walkouts prove what we’ve always known: the GOP’s hate is unfounded, unpopular, and unwarranted.
As a queer Black woman, I understand firsthand the destructive toll of anti-gay discrimination and hate. LGBTQ+ youth are among the most vulnerable demographics in the country, being victim to high rates of bullying, homelessness, and suicide.
Further marginalizing them is despicable. Our youth deserve better.
John, the state has turned their back on our children, so we must rely on the federal government to step up and protect our kids from hate. That’s why I’m running for Congress – because no child should be made a victim to the GOP’s hateful agenda. If you’re with me, please, chip in $3 to my campaign today »
