Just three months after the Supreme Court heard arguments on one of the most consequential abortions rights cases in 50 years, Florida state legislators passed their own nearly identical restrictions, banning abortion after just 15 weeks of pregnancy.

This bill is just the latest in the many draconian measures taken by GOP-led state legislatures to restrict access to reproductive freedom. And with Roe v. Wade facing an uncertain future in the hands of Donald Trump's conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court, we need to send the message that we will NOT stand for threats to reproductive health care, including the right to safe and legal abortion.

I promise you that as Governor of Maryland, I will continue to uphold laws that preserve reproductive rights, just as I did as President Obama's Head of Civil Rights prosecuting anti-abortion extremists under the FACE Act.

I will make sure Maryland continues to rank among states most protective of reproductive freedom by supporting efforts like the Abortion Care Access Act that works to expand access and reduce cost for Marylanders seeking reproductive health care.
