Friends, Betsy DeVos has failed the children of this country.

As one of the millions of Americans still paying off my student loans, I’m outraged at Secretary DeVos, who violated a court order to cancel student debt for Americans who had graduated from shuttered, for-profit colleges.

DeVos was sued, threatened with jail time, and fined $100,000 before she finally agreed to comply with the court order -- because she has so much contempt for financially disadvantaged people that she’ll do anything to avoid giving them a break.

The Department of Education exists to help every American get a quality education without breaking the bank. But Betsy DeVos only cares about protecting corporate special interests.

Betsy DeVos comes from a family of billionaires. She sent all her children to private school, so she doesn’t believe that it’s the government’s responsibility to provide affordable education to all.

So it’s no surprise that she’s completely unsympathetic to the struggles of students who go to college to make a better life for themselves, but ended up drowning in debt.
