John,
48 possible crimes.
We counted. That’s how many crimes Donald Trump has been credibly alleged to have committed while campaigning for the presidency or while serving in office. Check out our new tracker for the full list.
While Trump was in office, he was protected by the Justice Department’s policy of not indicting a sitting president. But since leaving office, he has yet to be charged with a single crime.
And here’s the kicker—the statutes of limitations for many of his likely crimes are starting to run out. While prosecutors must be judicious in pursuing indictments, particularly against a former president, no one should be immune from accountability and facing criminal charges where warranted. With the staggering number of credibly alleged crimes we’ve outlined in our report, it’s hard to believe that the facts don’t support at least one criminal charge—and there should certainly be rigorous investigations to determine whether charges are appropriate.
After all, if President Trump avoids criminal prosecution for these potential offenses because prosecutors are unwilling to pursue legally justified cases against him, the message to him and future presidents will be clear: you can commit crimes with impunity.
We can’t let that happen. We’ll continue fighting for accountability for as long as it takes.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
