Hey John -- I wanted to send a quick update on the two AOTL states that had to redraw their maps. Republicans in North Carolina challenged the fair redrawn congressional map and wanted to reinstate a gerrymandered map. But the Supreme Court denied their request.

This means that voters in North Carolina will officially be using a fair congressional map for the 2022 midterms!

I wish I could say I had good news about Ohio -- but Republicans keep proposing gerrymandered maps. We’re actually back in court AGAIN helping voters challenge another gerrymandered map!

Ohio is a great example of how this fight isn’t over yet. Can you chip in to support All On The Line’s efforts to secure fair maps? Here’s a link to make a donation: secure.actblue.com/donate/aotl-mapaccountability

Voters in Ohio and North Carolina have been bold and vocal advocates for fair maps. And both states have constitutional protections against partisan gerrymandering.

So when voters challenged the gerrymandered legislative and congressional maps in court, the Ohio and North Carolina State Supreme Courts struck down the maps!

As these two states began to redraw maps, the AOTL teams in Ohio and North Carolina shifted into high gear! Will you help All On The Line be prepared to support voters at every step of the redistricting process?

Both of these states have GOP-controlled legislatures who are involved in the map-drawing process. Here are the latest map manipulation shenanigans you should know about and what’s next:

North Carolina » Republicans want the NC Supreme Court to appoint a conservative map drawer as “special master” in the redraw process -- one who consulted on the very maps in Ohio that were also deemed unconstitutional.

Next steps: Republican lawmakers and the voting groups who challenged the maps have until the end of the week to submit new maps to the three-judge panel!

Ohio » Republicans leading redistricting in Ohio have notoriously missed nearly every map deadline in this process and continue to run out the clock for the current court-ordered redraw. And now they want to force Ohioans to have two separate primaries -- a “solution” to a problem they alone have caused that would have a $15 million price tag!

Next steps: The majority-Republican redistricting commission is now in charge of redrawing the maps -- yet with only one day until the next deadline, the commission has no public map or upcoming public meetings.

We need the help of grassroots donors to make sure we can support voters every step of the way -- holding map manipulators accountable, challenging gerrymandered maps in court, and advocating for fair maps during redraws!
