London Councils' Group Leaders, Cllr Georgia Gould (Chair and Leader, LB Camden); Cllr Teresa O'Neill (Vice Chair and Leader, LB Bexley), Cllr Ruth Dombey (Vice Chair and Leader, LB Sutton and Catherine McGuinness, (Vice Chair and Chair of Policy and Resources Committee, City of London) yesterday issued a joint statement of support to mark International Women's Day:
“On International Women’s Day 2022, we voice our support for women in our communities and reaffirm London boroughs’ commitment to achieving gender equality in our city.
“As borough Leaders at the forefront of our respective political groups and City of London Corporation Policy Chair, we are proud to be leading London local government. However we recognise that bias, discrimination and stereotyping remains a significant barrier to women realising their full potential.
“40% of London’s councillors were women following the borough elections in 2018 and political parties have been working hard to see female representation increase in the upcoming elections.”
