This is chilling - scientists are sounding the alarm at the EPA? ? ? ? The story is still developing. It's just been leaked out of the EPA that the Trump administration is preparing to drop a new rule that will disallow the use of vast quantities of data in its policy making.

In effect, the new rule could virtually end meaningful implementation of significant parts of the Clean Air Act and many more bedrock environmental laws.

We need your help. There will still be a short window before the new rule takes effect, and in the midst of the impeachment hearings and a possible government shutdown, we need to raise hell in a major way if we have any shot at blocking the new policy.

We're asking every LCV member to pitch in to make that possible. A donor has agreed to triple match every contribution before the end of the month ? even $5 donations are enough to make a difference.

We're turning to our members to make this campaign possible. A donor has agreed to triple match every contribution through the end of the month ? please, pitch in today ? [link removed]

Here are the details: The new rule would prevent policy makers from using any study if the study's data, code, and models aren't made public.

It sounds innocuous enough, but in practice, the EPA currently relies on public health studies based on confidential medical information ? data that is incredibly private and should never be made public. These public health studies are absolutely critical to implementing virtually every law that protects the water we drink and the air we breathe.

Scientists within the EPA are raising the alarm. This policy has been designed and pushed forward by lobbyists for the oil industry and big tobacco. Politically-appointed leaders within the EPA have pushed aside the agency's Science Advisory Board in an end-run to stop the EPA from fulfilling its mission.

Friend ? here's the thing ? there's a real risk this passes without a fight. The rule is a technical one. In the midst of impeachment hearings and a possible government shutdown, there's a serious risk that this flies completely under the radar and the rule is finalized without a fight.

We can't let that happen, but we need your help. This campaign is going to take organizing at a grassroots level, lobbying in Congress, and potentially taking the Trump administration to court.

We need to raise $22,000 by the end of November to keep our work going strong. If everyone reading this right now pitched in just $5, we'd blow through that goal in minutes. Remember ? a donor is offering a triple match, so your contribution goes even further than usual if you give today.

Please, triple your impact. If the environmental movement doesn't turn out in a big way right now, the EPA's mission could be lost forever. Donate today ? even if it's just $5 ? [link removed]

Thank you ? for everything that you do for the environment, friend.

Sincerely,

Adam, Brooke, Casey, ChiQuita, Elizabeth, Eric, Jim, Julie, Levi, Mike, Rachel, Sammi, and Vinnie
