Multinational corporations have nearly made the independent family farmer a thing of the past. A handful of companies control the majority of the market. It is crucial that Congress act now to protect farmers, consumers, and the environment before the situation gets even worse.

A crown jewel of Patagonia, Chile’s Futaleufú River flows westward across the Andes through glacially carved valleys of native forests, fertile agricultural land, and rugged, rocky peaks. For ten years, Futaleufú Riverkeeper has been working to protect the river from emerging threats.
Mbacke Seck was a student in 1998 when he noticed a disturbing development at his local beach in Hann Bay, Senegal: the area had become covered with trash. “The beach was not a beach. It was a rubbish dump.” Mbacke has been the Hann Baykeeper since 2006, and has become something of a local celebrity. Though the bay still faces many challenges, Mbacke and his allies have achieved tremendous progress over the years.
