John, today is International Women's Day -- when we celebrate the achievements of women and recommit to realizing gender equality.
I’ve made it a priority my whole career to fight for legislation that will protect and advance women’s rights.
In the Virginia legislature, I wrote and passed a law that finally gave mothers the right to breastfeed in public. I fiercely fought against Republican efforts to pass undue restrictions on abortion, championing legislation that would remove unconstitutional barriers to access like unnecessary waiting periods and TRAP laws targeted at women’s health clinics.
In Congress, I've supported legislation that expands women’s access to quality, affordable health care, family planning services, and contraception. I've voted to expand paid family and medical leave programs, end violence against women, promote women’s involvement in STEM and political fields, and close the gender pay gap.
In the last few years, we've seen how women are disproportionately impacted by economic and health care disparities. And we're now facing alarming threats against our right to reproductive choice. With the very foundation of Roe v. Wade on precarious ground, it's clear that 2022 will be a defining year for the rights of women in this country.
I will not stop fighting for women. I won't be silent in the face of efforts to turn back the clock on our rights. If you can chip in anything to help me keep up the fight in what's shaping up to be a tough re-election campaign, I'd greatly appreciate it. Your grassroots support ensures that we can effectively continue our advocacy and stand strong against misinformation.
