Hey, my name is Carly — an organizer with Team Jayapal. It's nice to meet you.
In a moment, I'm going to tell you more about me and why this work is so important — but before I do, please consider contributing $3 or any amount to our campaign right now to help sustain our work in this critical election year.
As the new organizer for this incredible team, I am excited about joining this movement and what the future holds.
As a young woman of color, it fills me with pride to work for someone I can see myself in and who I know is fighting to create a better, more equitable world for my loved ones and communities.
I first moved to Seattle to attend college at Seattle Pacific University. As one of the first in my family to go to college, it was a defining experience made possible by a succession of sacrifices — from my grandparents' decision to immigrate from Mexico to the U.S. to my father's decision to join the U.S. Air Force and my mom's hard work raising me as a young mother.
When I graduated in 2019, I was excited to contribute to the communities in Seattle that had become my new home. When the pandemic hit a few months later, I worked as an immigration caseworker. I heard firsthand the struggles many individuals faced due to extreme backlogs and our country's broken immigration system.
I know that I am the product of these stories. My values are shaped by the struggles my family and the community members I had the honor of working with faced. And it is these stories that inspired me to join Congresswoman Jayapal's team. Her advocacy for the underserved was unwavering before and during the pandemic, and I know it will continue to be in the years to come.
In this new role, I am fighting for my community here in WA-07 and for my family in Texas and Americans across the country. By having a fighter like Pramila in Congress, we have a fighter for us all — one who is bold and will keep pushing for legislation that will improve the lives of working families like mine.
But reelecting Pramila, protecting the Democratic majority, and electing more progressives to Congress this year is going to take everyone doing their part. Potential opponents, the GOP, and corporate special interests will do anything in their power to stop our momentum and stall our progressive agenda.
Thank you for being in this fight with us! I'm sure you'll be hearing from me again soon.
In solidarity,
Carly
