Dear John,

This week at Alliance for Justice, democracy and the future of women’s rights in our country are both very much on our minds. Both are in danger. Who sits on our courts today is a big reason why.

Over the weekend, Vice President Harris joined other elected officials and civil rights leaders to commemorate the 57th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, when brave civil rights marchers were beaten and attacked as they tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma to demand the right to vote. The scene reminds us of how fragile American democracy truly is. It reminds us of the levels of courage it took to ensure all eligible Americans could vote, and finally have a say in our democracy.

The historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court is a reminder that, while there is much work ahead to secure equal justice for all, we can still make important history today.

This week also includes International Women’s Day. Judge Jackson is only the sixth woman to be nominated to our nation’s highest court in 233 years.

Judge Jackson is poised to influence our nation’s laws for generations to come. Her legal and judicial career demonstrates her commitment to protecting the rights of everyone, not just the rich and powerful. As a public defender, she protected those most vulnerable to injustices in the criminal legal system. As a sitting judge, she’s issued over 600 opinions from the bench. We are incredibly excited to have an historic Supreme Court nominee as outstanding and eminently qualified as Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. We can’t wait to see her experience and commitment to equal justice in the spotlight during her confirmation hearings, scheduled for Monday, March 21 through Thursday, March 24.

AFJ will be watching closely. Look out for a comprehensive wrap-up of the week’s events, and what to expect after the hearings conclude.

Help us ensure Judge Jackson is confirmed with a donation today. $25, $100, $250—any amount you can contribute will make a difference. [[link removed]]

With gratitude,
