I wanted to wish you a happy International Women's Day, John.
While we celebrate womenkind, we need to recognize the fight against gender discrimination isn't something women should face alone. We all have the responsibility to resist gender bias and to be an ally for women.
It's why I'm fighting for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to guarantee women equal protection, payment, and treatment under the Constitution. It's why we keep demanding the Senate pass the Equality Act to enshrine and protect the rights of LGBTQ+ women. It's why we defend the right to reproductive health care for all women no matter where they live. And it's why I proudly voted for legislation that will protect workers and survivors of sexual assault and harassment.
Every single day is an opportunity to take bold action for gender equality — for pay equity, anti-discrimination legislation, reproductive justice, affordable child care, paid leave, and respect and dignity for all. We aren't free until we're all free.
I hope today you take time to celebrate women around the world and recommit to the fight for social and economic justice for all.
In solidarity,
Dwight
