The Willow project is a proposed oil drilling project about 36 miles from the mostly-Indigenous village of Nuiqsut in Alaska. If built, this project would include the construction of pipelines, roads, a processing facility, and up to 250 drilling wells.
What's more, this drilling project was rushed to approval by the Trump administration. A project of this size would devastate the fragile ecosystem of the Alaskan Arctic, and make it impossible for the Biden Administration to meet its goal of getting the US to zero-net emissions by 2050.
Recently, a judge in Alaska vacated the project's approvals, and it must go back to the approving federal agencies for re-review. So this is a critical moment for the Biden Administration in its fight against climate change.
