Hi John, wanted to send a quick note today about the state of the race for PA-08.
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a challenge from Pennsylvania Republicans who wanted to strike down the new congressional map.
My opponent was one of just two Republicans running for office to join a slate of far-right provocateurs in this challenge.
This is even after he celebrated the new maps as a win for Republicans – but clearly, he wanted to see a more gerrymandered map.
I’m glad the Supreme Court – even one with a conservative majority – stood by these nonpartisan maps. This is not only good news for democracy but good news for our campaign.
This is still a highly competitive race – the district is still rated a toss-up by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. I won in 2020 by less than 4%. But we cannot let someone who would so brazenly attack the foundation of our democracy by pushing for partisan gerrymandering to flip PA-08 red.
Our community is not ready for an extremist like him to represent us, no matter how many millions of dollars pour into our district from outside groups or how they try to gerrymander it. The GOP is desperate to flip PA-08 to take back the House, and this recent lawsuit shows it.
This race is WINNABLE, and we can do our part to keep the House, but only if we have the resources we need to keep up with Kevin McCarthy’s millions. If you can, consider giving
Thanks so much,
Matt
