John,

Kansas has been home to some incredible women who fought for a better world for future generations of women:

Linda Brown
Amelia Earhart
Clarina Nichols
Sharice Davids
Minnie Grinstead
Nancy Kassebaum
Lucinda Todd
Kathleen Sebelius
Georgia Neese Clark Gray
Lynette Woodard
Rafaela "Lali" Garcia

All of these remarkable women exemplify this year's theme for International Women's Day: Break the Bias. They looked at the world around them and fought for equality -- in education, government, voting rights, the workforce, sports, and so much more.

They embody the idea that when women succeed, we all succeed.

In their individual accomplishments, these women paved the way for women across our state -- and country -- to have a seat at the table. But the reality is, we're still fighting for that seat to this day.

Too often, decisions that will impact women’s lives -- whether it’s about women’s healthcare, education, access to affordable childcare, or jobs -- are made by a room full of men.

Today, on International Women's Day, I want to issue a challenge to all of you: choose to challenge the status quo. Take a moment to share with my team how you plan to challenge the status quo -- or share a story about how a woman in your life has inspired you.
