Hi Friend,
Today, I hope you’ll join us in celebrating the women worldwide who fight to increase access to reproductive health care. They’re upholding this basic human right to decide whether, or when, to have a child. When we defend this human right, we improve people’s lives and protect the planet.
How? Universal, affordable access to voluntary family planning options slows population growth—which lowers greenhouse gas emissions and helps to mitigate climate change.
That’s why I hope you’ll join us again to advance family planning programs for people around the world, with your generous gift of $35.00.
Your continued support will boost our collaborations with foreign health organizations around the world.
Today, we honor the inspiring woman who founded Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH) in Uganda, Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka.
“Dr. Gladys,” as she’s known, keeps Uganda’s endangered mountain gorillas healthy and safe in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by addressing the public health needs of the human communities surrounding the park. This includes improving infectious disease control, community hygiene practices, and education about and access to modern family planning.
Rapid human population growth at the edges of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park threatened the health and homes of the mountain gorillas there. People drew from the forest’s resources for their own survival, inadvertently destroying gorilla habitats and exposing gorillas to human illnesses and diseases. Dr. Gladys, a wildlife veterinarian, saw a solution: through CTPH, she initiated voluntary family planning programs and other public health initiatives to reduce the Bwindi region fertility rate, helping local people and gorillas to live more harmoniously.
Thanks to your support, we’ve collaborated with CTPH since 2015.
That’s why I hope you’ll consider making a generous gift of $35.00 today. Your donation will advance vital relationships with community-based organizations such as CTPH in Uganda.
Human population growth remains a staggering challenge facing our planet today. But, thanks to you, and thanks to the work of visionary women like Dr. Gladys, we are making progress!
Thank you for all that you do,
