Hi John,
It's International Women's Day, which means you're going to be hearing this number a lot:
Women make up 51% of the U.S. population but only 30% of elected officials.
That's not good enough, and we're here to do something about it. Because we've always known government does better when it looks like the people it serves -- that's why the Run for Something mission isn't just to elect young progressives but to elect DIVERSE young progressives.
If we want big, bold progress for all women, then we need to elect more Black women, women of color, queer women, women with disabilities, women with children, and more. Each step we take forward is a step for
all of us.
At Run for Something, we've endorsed 102 diverse women running for office this year, and we're committed to more than half of our endorsements this year being women. Please chip in

Here's what a lack of diverse young progressive women in office looks like:
- 71 bills introduced in state legislatures to ban most or all abortion
- School districts and libraries banning books by leading women authors like Toni Morrison, Angie Thomas, Nikole Hannah-Jones, and Alice Walker
- A complete lack of family and medical leave so that if you, your kid, or someone you take care of gets sick -- you have to choose between your paycheck and someone's health
The old, white, boys' clubs are still kicking, which is exactly why we exist -- recruitment and support from Run for Something gives our candidates the credibility to take on the very power structures they want to overturn for all of us when they're elected.
But first, they have to get there.
