Are you trying to eat less meat?

Friend –
If America’s meat and milk industry were a country, it would be the world’s 12th largest greenhouse gas emitter.
Big Ag has put its profits before our health time and again – use of toxic pesticides, fertilizers that run into our water and antibiotics that contribute to superbugs. Now Big Ag is trying to cover up their climate change contributions with a new ‘low carbon’ beef label. But beef that meets this label would still be the worst climate change choice at the meat counter.
“Low carbon” beef makes about as much sense as “clean coal” or “low cancer” cigarettes.
While greenhouse gas emissions from energy and transportation fall, emissions from agriculture have climbed 12% since 2000. By 2050, the meat industry could easily account for one-third of U.S. emissions.
If you’re looking to protect our environment and our health, eating less animal protein can be a great way to start. EWG is stepping up our work on non-animal proteins. Can you help us shape our plans by completing a quick survey on non-animal proteins?
