John,
As a child, Ashley felt firsthand the struggles of financial insecurity and substance abuse issues in her family — a lack of access to good-paying jobs, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and affordable education impacted her family in the same way that it holds many in our community back.
Ashley is running for Congress to flip the script on how leaders in Washington, D.C. address mental health and substance abuse. In office, Ashley will push for compassionate, practical policies that provide access and opportunities for middle-class and working families to thrive, and if they need it, get help. Ashley has lost too many of her family members and soldiers to the effects of mental health and substance abuse to not fight for improved resources.
Additionally, a recent report shows that nearly 9 out of 10 Americans are concerned about the mental health toll the pandemic’s impact has on our youth.
The reality of the pandemic’s impact is overwhelming young people in ways that negatively affect their overall well-being — from school closings, lack of supportive resources, job layoffs, poverty, and parents juggling between jobs to support their children.
It’s clear that Congress needs to do more to address the issues young people are dealing with so they have the resources needed to thrive.
Ashley is no stranger to putting up a fight because she’s overcome one obstacle from another. That’s why Ashley is running for Congress — to fight for policies that will put families in need first. We need leaders with the courage to fight for the services that lift up our communities now more than ever.
