Happy International Women’s Day! We’re celebrating some amazing progress, and the women who are making it happen…
We’re celebrating some amazing progress, and the women who are making it happen…
Just this past year, we’ve welcomed some trailblazing first-time female Liberal MPs like:
Pascale St‑Onge
Arielle Kayabaga
Rechie Valdez
and many more!
The 2021 election saw the highest percentage of women and gender-diverse candidates to ever run in a Canadian federal election.
And today, there are a record number of women representing Canadians in the House of Commons!
That’s a win for women, and a win for all Canadians – but we need to keep building on this progress.
Since 2015, our Liberal government has been supporting women’s leadership in our democracy, our economy, and all aspects of Canadian life.
And we’ve been making important progress together since!
Moving forward with making $10-a-day child care a reality for all Canadians families to make life more affordable and help parents, particularly women, get back into the workforce
Advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and moving forward with crucial new funding to address violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people
Creating the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy
Protecting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
There is a lot of progress to be proud of, but much more ahead of us as we work to keep building a fairer and more equal and Canada – for everyone.
We can and must do better.
According to the United Nations Development Programme, 80% of people displaced by climate change are women.
Women make up most of the front-line health care, long-term care, child care, and education workforce – which has exposed them to greater risk of COVID-19 infection.
Census data shows that women, people of colour, and low-wage workers are the predominant transit riders – underscoring the need for investments in better public transit and stronger communities.
When we make important progress on issues like accelerating our fight against climate change, keeping Canadians safe and healthy, and investing in public transit across the country, we’re investing in helping women succeed and thrive – and building a better future for all Canadians!
Did you know?
Some research suggests that a woman is 50% less likely than a man to consider herself a potential candidate for elected office.
