"Nurses are being pushed by supervisors to come to work even when they are sick; some of these nurses have come to work, only to have to leave because of illness. Employers need to immediately hire more nurses and assistive personnel in every unit and on every shift to ensure a safe work environment in which we can do what we are trained to do – provide compassionate and expert care to each patient.”
-Eileen Shaw, RN, Treasurer, DCNA Board of Directors, and Chairperson of DCNA/HU-HUH
Howard University Hospital nurses have worked throughout the pandemic to provide the best care for their patients and our DC community, often at the expense of their physical, mental, and emotional health. Despite calling them heroes in public, Howard University Hospital and Adventist Healthcare have denied these nurses a fair contract since 2019, and are currently threatening to cut differentials and declare impasse without addressing the dangerous staffing shortage.
DC Jobs with Justice is calling on President Wayne Frederick and CEO Anita Jenkins to demand that Howard University return to the table and negotiate a fair contract that protects the dignity, rights, and safety of workers and their patients! You can view our letter here and contact [email protected] if your organization would like to join us in sending personal letters to the administration.
