John,
This International Women's Day, we want to take a moment to honor the hardworking women in our projects around the world who have had the courage and determination to break biases in their communities and families — and find their own firsts.
Women like:
- Maria in Guatemala, who runs her own beauty salon, providing jobs to other women in her community so they, too, can build independence and show women can #BreakTheBias and be business owners
- Lillian in Kenya, a successful poultry farmer who escaped domestic violence in order to build a better life for her children, breaking long-held gender biases against women in agriculture
- Tulsi in Nepal, the first chairperson of her cooperative and a founding member of an exclusively women-led social enterprise that supports local farmers
Celebrate these incredible women and more by taking a moment to read their stories in our special International Women's Day photo essay.
Thanks to generous Heifer supporters like you, hundreds of thousands of women around the world in our projects are finding their firsts — whether that's being the first woman in her family to earn an education or the first woman to bring her family to stable financial footing by leading her own cooperative or business.
Thank you for believing in the potential and power of women and for giving them the opportunity to find their firsts!
Sincerely,
Christy Moore
