Connect with the global women's movement this #IWD22.
Dear John,
It’s International Women’s Day! It’s a time to connect with the global sisterhood and shine a spotlight on endemic issues that are holding women back.
Double your donation this March As you may have read in our email yesterday, we’re raising vital funds in support of our partner organisations that are working to end violence against women and girls. Womankind Worldwide supports partners to;
Provide essential women’s services such as shelters, hotlines, counselling, and support groups
Support women to understand and claim their rights
Encourage women to take on leadership positions
Hold governments to account on their human rights obligations
Improve access to justice
Challenge negative behaviours and gender stereotypes that often lead to violence.
Thanks to a group of generous donors, if you make a donation before the end of March, it will be matched pound for pound. Regular gifts are especially important to our work as they allow us to offer the security of long-term support to our partners. If you choose to set up a direct debit, the first year of your gifts will be matched.
While we’ve chosen to focus on violence against women this International Women’s Day, it’s vital that we don’t become overwhelmed by the enormous scale of the challenge. There is so much that women are doing – and can do – when we work together, creating a safer world where women and girls can achieve their full potential.
This is why we’ve launched Make Connections is a new online experience that celebrates women’s power in the face of violence. Disguised as a dot-to-dot game, Make Connections encourages you explore the stories of grassroots feminist movements working around the world today to support women to discover their power and change the world we live in.
You’ll meet women creating safe spaces, women challenging harmful stereotypes among boys, women transforming policing practices and women changing the law.
Hear directly from women’s rights activists in Africa and Asia
The generosity of supporters like you help us fund grassroots women’s rights organisations and movements in Kenya, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Nepal. We strive to keep you informed of the full scope of the incredible work being done by our partner organisations. But nothing beats hearing it first-hand. In the first of a three-part video series, we asked our partners to share how they’re working to end violence against women and girls in their communities.
International Women’s Day is a day like any other in the calendar year. A day where equality, safety, and security has yet to be achieved for all women. But we hope reading how the women’s movement is driving change forward leaves you feeling energised for all we can achieve in the year to come.
With best wishes,
Hannah Little
