Hey Ocean Activist,

Did you know the UK’s rivers are in a critical state?

Only 14% meet good ecological status and none pass the required chemical tests. It is therefore no surprise that they are spiralling towards environmental collapse and three out of four rivers pose a serious risk to human health.

So, today, we are launching a petition calling for the designation of 200 river bathing waters by 2030.

This will create blue spaces where water quality is officially monitored for harmful bacteria and viruses. And, critically, legal obligations will be placed on industry to stop sewage and agricultural pollution.

Last year, the voices of thousands of people joined together to demand improvement in the UK’s water quality. This year, industry and government must put their words into action and deliver on the commitments they made.

And it's up to us to keep the pressure on.
