From Louisville, Kentucky to Minneapolis, MN, no-knock raids have too often resulted in the deaths of innocent Black people. Just last month, Minneapolis police murdered 22-year-old Amir Locke during one of these raids as he slept on his couch – in his own home. It only took police nine seconds to break into the house and murder Amir, who was later confirmed to not be the subject of the warrant that was issued.
We’ve seen this too many times, team. Amir’s murder comes less than 2 years after the tragic murder of Breonna Taylor, who was also murdered due to a no-knock warrant that she was not the subject of.
Although the city of Louisville banned no-knock warrants after Breonna’s death, it is not enough. We need federal action to ensure equal protection for all and stop the criminalization of Black and brown communities.
