Indivisibles,
In last week’s State of the Union address, President Biden reaffirmed his
commitment to the fundamental ideas of the Build Back Better agenda while
gamely shifting the focus away from a named package to passing the
foundational policies. He spoke on the need to cut the costs of childcare
and prescription drugs, eliminate tax loopholes, and address climate
change from the framework of addressing inflation, increasing job
opportunities, and revitalizing our economy.
Well, Let’s Go Joe!
We are elated to see that President Biden has not given up on his landmark
legislative agenda and excited to continue supporting and encouraging him
along the way. So, while Congress gets to work on passing his policy
agenda, President Biden must use the full powers of the executive branch
to guarantee progress in addition to pushing for swift passage of his
legislative priorities. [ [link removed] ]Click here to get familiar with Executive
Actions and how they work in preparation for the days to come and keep
your eyes peeled for new opportunities to engage coming later this week.
And don’t forget: Even if this package isn’t called “Build Back Better,”
it's the contents, not the name, that matter.
With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

Your 6 weekly to-dos
1. [ [link removed] ]Click here to read Leah Greenberg’s statement on Ukraine. We stand
in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the face of naked
aggression by the Putin regime. Let Leah contextualize the conflict,
explain how this ties to domestic policy, and provide avenues of
support as we all come together in opposition to this senseless
violence.
2. [ [link removed] ]Click here if you have a Democratic senator to tell them to
encourage President Biden to declare a climate emergency and/or
[ [link removed] ]click here if you have a Democratic house representative, to do the
same. We have to act immediately if we want to turn back the tide on
climate change. Through executive action, the path involves getting
President Biden to declare a climate emergency, affording him a broad
range of resources at his disposal to take steps to address the
climate crisis. The science is clear, now we need to ensure our
representatives listen to it.
3. [ [link removed] ]Click here if your congressional representation is Republican or
you have no congressional representation at all. President Biden has
already been vocal about the need for immediate action on climate
change; let’s make sure he knows that he has support even in
Republican territory.
4. [ [link removed] ]Click here if you have a Democratic senator to tell them to
encourage President Biden to cancel student loan debt and [ [link removed] ]click
here if you have a Democratic house representative, to do the same.
Over the past 20 years, the price of higher education has been on an
exponential rise, all while wages have remained stagnant. Now there
are nearly 45 million people holding more than $1.8 trillion in
student debt. President Biden can cancel federal student loan debt
with a signature.
5. [ [link removed] ]Click here if your congressional representative is Republican or
you have no congressional representation at all. The president must
have clear evidence that there is a broad coalition of Americans who
support the cancellation of student debt across party representation.
6. [ [link removed] ]Click here to call your senator and urge them to support Judge
Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court. We know she’s qualified.
We know Judge Jackson has had bipartisan support in her previous
judicial nominations. Let’s do what we do best -- call on our senators
to do what we all know is right: Confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
without delay. If you need tools to help you fight back against the
smear campaign against Judge Jackson, [ [link removed] ]click here to access a
resource for pushing back on right wing Supreme Court nomination lies.
P.S. We rely on your support to keep call pages up and running, fund ads
to get the word out, and continue all the work we’re doing this year.
